J. K. Rowling

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” ― Albus Dumbledore

Today, July 31st is Joanne (Kathleen) Rowling’s birthday, the author of the beloved Harry Potter series and other novels. She was born in Yate, England, in 1965. After graduating, she moved to Portugal to teach English, where she met Jorge Arantes with whom she had a daughter. After the relationship ended in divorce, she went to Edinburgh with her daughter, facing some severe financial tribulations and traumas due to the domestic violence she suffered while in the relationship with Arantes. She wrote the first Harry Potter novel in a café because she couldn’t afford to pay for electric bills at her home.

Nowadays, It is difficult to imagine a world without Harry Potter. Even if you haven’t read or watched the movies, you must have heard about the orphan boy who found out he was a wizard and went to a special school to learn magic. Harry Potter has been appointed as the most successful book and movie franchise, with at least 500 million books sold worldwide. In fact, Rowling was once elected the most wealthy woman in the UK before she donated a massive amount of her money to charities.

Rowling has been severely condemned recently because of some controversial tweets and remarks she made on the issue of biological sex and gender. We, at Livr(a), do not support all of her ideas and opinions. Still, we respect her legacy and the incredible contributions she’s made in the world. In our support of all women, we do not agree with insults and cancellations.

We wish J. K. Rowling a healthy life, and that she may continue doing the fantastic work she has done to help women in vulnerability.

So, what’s your favorite Harry Potter movie and/or film?
